Table, Riviera

For the label Dadadum, founded in 2012 by the Ticino-based graphic designer Demian Conrad, Alfredo Häberli, who studied at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), designed four stone tables that can be used as coffee table, occasional table, nightstand, or entry console. The material is as thin as possible in order to create a strong contrast between the object’s monolithic appearance and its fine lines. The four types of stone (Calanca, Cresciano, Iragna, and Onsernone) recall the rough stone tables seen in Ticino’s typical “grotti,” but are now brought into the home. The tabletops are slotted into vertical panels, their matte surfaces contrasting with shiny polished edges. The name Riviera refers to the Val Riviera, which was originally the base of the stone trade in the Ticino region.
