The textile designer and artist Christoph Hefti (b. 1967) lives between Zurich, Paris and Brussels. After earning a degree at the Schule für Gestaltung Zürich, he studied fashion at Central Saint Martins in London. He then started designing for Jean Paul Gaultier and Dries Van Noten, working for the latter for thirteen years as a creative assistant also in charge of printed fabrics. Since 2011, Hefti has been doing work for the fashion houses Lanvin and Balenciaga in Paris and designed printed fabrics for Acne Studios in Stockholm. In collaboration with other artists, he is also active in the performing arts, combining music, costume design, video, and live art in his work. Hefti won the Grand Prix Design of the Swiss Confederation in 2009 for his multidisciplinary work. His interest in handmade textiles takes him to Nepal, where he designed and developed a series of hand-knotted rugs. The designs conjoin mystical and even spiritual storytelling motifs with contemporary image elements and personal themes.
