Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Reform, Modernism, Constructivism, Pop: The list of design trends over the past 150 years is long, and every decade has sought its own specific style of expression. In some cases, the design currents of an entire decade are condensed in a single object. This object then stands for a way of thinking that has found a concise and fitting formal counterpart. When many examples of design over the decades are viewed together, the changes in society become evident, providing physical evidence of what Ortega y Gasset called the “system of vital ideas.” (Christian Brändle)
