This bandstand, like the rocks and the bridge, is also left over from the time of the first Swiss National Exhibition of 1883. Along with a fountain it was the hub of the exhibition site which was laid out on the Platzspitz.
This was not the original location of either the bandstand or the fountain: both were somewhat closer to the National Museum, which you can now see from here. But some 10 years after the national exhibition was held, construction of the National Museum started. Because of this, the Platzspitz was also reconfigured. The fountain went. But the bandstand was moved a few dozen meters and allowed to stay.
Incidentally, from here you can see the second 18th century clump of trees that we mentioned earlier. They are the two plane trees on the little mound, not far from the bandstand.
