Wolfgang Weingart (b. 1941) is considered the enfant terrible of modern Swiss typography. In the 1960s he defied the typographical canons, causing a furor in the field. He rose to international fame, however, with his collaged film overlays in the 1970s and 1980s. Their principles of layering and montage anticipated the digital sampling of the postmodern New Wave as well as the possibilities of today’s Photoshop software.
