The Zurich sculptor and painter Otto Müller (1905–1993) worked from 1929 to 1937 as a sign painter, making a living with movie posters for his hometown. His designs streamlined in a reduced format captivate with their sense of drama and dynamics. A speeding train or a woman seen from the back running up the stairs promises thrills at the cinema. With his portraits of Greta Garbo and Charlie Chaplin, Müller immortalized the stars of the silver screen.
