All his life Otto Baumberger (1889–1961) wanted to be a successful painter, but he achieved his greatest renown as a poster designer. With around 250 works, his oeuvre embodies Swiss poster history in the first half of the twentieth century. Baumberger’s designs for tourism posters clearly betray his artistic handwriting. They feature lovingly detailed landscapes and city views from the thirties that show Switzerland as a kind of paradise and include people only as incidental figures.
