In 1959, Josef Müller-Brockmann (1914–1996) embarked on another phase of graphic reduction. Concurrently with his first purely typographical music poster for the Tonhalle in Zurich, he also designed the well-known poster and catalogue for the exhibition Der Film at the Kunstgewerbemuseum Zürich. Again he opted for a purely typographical solution, but he also used experimental photography, which introduces movement to the typography and thus emphasizes the cinematic moment.
