Art Deco accessories exude the joy of playful design. Particularly popular during the period were earrings, belt buckles, and brooches made of the synthetic resins Bakelite and Galalith, the first modern plastics. Art Deco is distinguished from other styles such as Bauhaus or Art Nouveau by the use of these stable yet malleable materials, which could be produced in any color. The stylish woman of the twenties dressed and accessorized in geometrically patterned fashions featuring stark color contrasts. The focal point was the dress, ornamented here with a large floral pattern made of densely applied glass beads.
