In 1977, the
Typografische Monatsblätter
sported a series of unusual looks. The first issue resembles the
Schweizer Illustrierten
, the second the
Tages-Anzeiger-Magazin
, the fifth the comic
Fix und Foxi
, and the last issue of the year
Playboy
. All told, the designer Hans-Rudolf Lutz (1939–1998) created plagiarized covers for a total of ten issues of the otherwise reputable journal. He wanted to show how the visual appearance is invariably “read” and used to manipulate information.
