“What use is readability if nothing makes the text worth reading?” (WW, 1976). In the late 1960s, Wolfgang Weingart (b. 1941) left the proven path of functional text design—at least with respect to legibility and formal simplicity. He instead began to put language into an expressive typographic form. For this purpose, he experiments with the available materials and techniques—whether manual typesetting or lithograph collage (since 1973)—until he finds the right solution.
