Woodwind instruments are among the oldest musical instruments in human history. They have been developed in numerous variants in the most diverse genres: from the recorder particularly popular in the Baroque era to the exotic czakan crafted in the form of a walking stick, from a Japanese mouth organ made of bamboo to a bassoon an octave higher than normal known in the eighteenth century as the “fagotto piccolo” (or petit fagot).
